"Carbon Cap and Trade: Issues From the Past, Lessons for the Future," originally scheduled for January 21, has moved to a new date of February 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM Eastern. Please join us on Thursday, February 11th, for an introduction to some of the basics and the history of carbon cap and trade in the European Union and the New England/Mid-Atlantic states, as well as a look at the question of where U.S. greenhouse gas policy and regulation may be heading in these uncertain times. A year ago, many observers felt that a carbon cap and trade bill was likely to be enacted during this Congress, given the Administration's clear support. As the Congress progresses, however, the question remains whether early predictions will be correct. At the same time, there are regional initiatives to curb greenhouse gas emissions either in place or in planning stages. Carbon cap and trade programs in the EU and the US have lessons that would apply to either federal or regional programs.
This FREE webinar is designed to provide basic information regarding, and analysis of the performance of, two functioning carbon cap and trade regimes. We highlight some of the issues that have arisen both in the European Union's cap and trade program, which has been in place since January 2005, and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in the U.S., which has been in place since January 2009.
In addition, we will touch briefly on current proposals in the U.S., both in Congress and under development by the Environmental Protection Agency, for regulating greenhouse gas emissions. Presenters J.S. Gebhart and Meg Meiser are attorneys at the law firm of Spiegel & McDiarmid in both the energy and renewable/climate change practices.
