Clean Air Communities
The Clean Air Communities Partnership project, funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Air and Radiation, convened local government environmental officials to identify tools and incentives needed by local communities to meet national air quality objectives. Through the project, NALGEP addressed the need for local governments, EPA and the States to work in partnership to develop flexible, cost-effective, innovative methods to achieve air quality objectives.
Project Objectives:
- Identify needs of local governments to facilitate attainment of air quality objectives;
- Assess the value and viability of existing and potential clean air regulatory tools and incentives for local officials;
- Ensure that approaches to air quality improvements are integrated with other community environmental goals including brownfields revitalization, smart growth, transportation improvements, and energy efficiency;
- Develop better ways for local communities, EPA, States, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, regional governing organizations, and other stakeholders to communicate and work in partnership to achieve these air quality objectives; and
- Identify how innovative, non-permitted source approaches to air quality improvements could be measured or evaluated, and given credit with the Clean Air Act regulatory system.
